5.8GHz FPV or drone video transmitters are widely available. We’re sure you know where to find them. We’ve investigated a number of these transmitters and found all to be based on the Richwave RTC6705 and some microcontroller to do frequency and in some cases even power level settings.
What they usually have is some simple video pre-emphasis (R/C network) and one of possible two audio carriers enabled. In all cases we saw the 6.5MHz FM audio carrier enabled.

For FM-atv, the pre-emphases must be removed, and the 6.5MHz audio disabled. Fortunately, this is quite easy! Find the associated parts in your FPV transmitter, and:
REMOVE R28 and C21 and BRIDGE C26//R26. Or, of course, your equivalents.
That’s all!
Now, using your channel button(s) you could already put some quality signal on 6cm, using the Digital Baseband (what else 🙂 ).
A next post will contain details on an arduino project using a 16×2 I2C controlled LCD screen and a rotrary encoder, to control the frequency setting.
Keep watching!
